Vigere, Latin “To be vigorous or “thrive” is a holistic approach to natural resource management where the commercial crop and the natural areas including water bodies are managed to limit crop nutrients from moving off target. For beneath our feet lies a kingdom of micro flora & fauna that we are just starting to explore. New understanding of the relationship between microorganisms and their host plants describes a symbiotic relationship between beneficial microbes and plants that work together for the benefit of both organisms. Collectively the efforts of all of these organisms working together over time establish a functional and sustainable soil ecosystem. This ecosystem of microbes is located within the top 2 inches of the topsoil in close association (within 1 millimeter) to the plants root zone in an area known as the Rhizosphere (Root Orbit). It is here that nutrients, soil water and hormones are transferred between the microbes and crop roots. The crop plant, even though immobile, can attract large populations of soil organisms by excreting glucose sugars from the root tips within the Rhizosphere. Effective management of this microscopic ecosystem is the goal of the Vigere Soil & Water Program. Dayspring inoculums contain approximately 80 crop specific bacteria.
